The new Axis high performance EN/LTF B , the COMET was constructed with all the knowledge we obtained while developing the very succesfull bigger sister – Vega III
Our Vega testing programme revealed exciting characteristics that we have been able to adopt to produce a benchmark EN/LTF B certified glider.
We aimed to construct the ideal glider for beginner XC and novice pilots who rightly demand very high standards in safety without any sacrifice in performance.
The narrow ellipse shape of COMET is suspended on 4 ½ rows of lines using the same line layout on our now famous VegaII.
This line system reduces the total line consumption, improves glide ratio and most particularly increases the glide at speed. Performance gains were achieved by using unsheathed materials for the middle and upper cascades which reduces the overall drag of the glider.
This newly designed profile has improved the overall safety and handling characteristics of the wing.
COMET is constructed using the latest technologies available. The leading edge is reinforced, ball rolling pulleys make for a smoother speed system. The best line materials in terms of wear and longevity and most up-to-date fabrics for the canopy have all been specified for use in the new COMET.

Materials
Canopy:
The canopy is built from a combination of the best materials on the market manufactured by Porcher Marine.
Leading edge: S9092 E85A Evolution (45g/m) chosen for its outstanding durability.
Top and bottom surfaces: S9017 E77A Water repellent (40g/m) choosen for its lighter build which results in better flight characteristics.
Ribs: S9017 E29A Hard finish (39g/m) chosen for its low stretch characteristics
Reinforcements tapes: S6382 Mylar
Leading edge reinforcemen: Polyamide rods.
Lines:
The canopy is suspended on combination of Liros dynema (A and B rows) and Cousin Vectran (C and D rows) lines which helps us to prolong the correct-trim over the life-span of the glider by a factor of 30%.
Middle and upper cascades: Unsheathed materials of 100,120 and 160 daN for less resistence. Main lines:Very stable and durable PPSL sheathed Liros dynema of 160 and 200daN strengths.
Risers are from no-stretch Guth-and-Wolf 20mm webbing. Risers are equipped with ball bearing Harken pulley and Riley pulleys.
Comet is fitted with our progressive speed system which provides a higher stability in lower angle-of-attack configuration.
